What to Expect

Dr. Cowles will begin by going over your difficulties in detail. During this interview, information that is important for your doctor to consider will be reviewed. You will be asked about your symptoms, medical history, medications, and other important factors. This initial meeting is typically around one to one-and-a-half hours. At the end of this meeting, if testing is indicated you will begin neuropsychological (or neurocognitive) testing.
A neuropsychological evaluation consists of different types of testing used to evaluate your cognitive functions. The testing involves taking paper-and-pencil and computerized tests and answering questions. The time required depends on the problem being assessed. In general, several hours are needed to assess the many skills involved in the brain’s processing of information.
